As international teaching assignments go, it has not been my favorite. US Administrators had left just before I arrived, leaving Egyptian Administrators to facilitate the Massachusetts State Curriculum. Also, they were in the midst of an accreditation audit that put great stress on everyone. I was part of a team of four third grade teachers and did enjoy the collaboration. Parent communication was influenced by local culture and created misunderstandings from time to time. Arabic is a difficult language to grasp, so getting around Cairo was tricky sometimes. The students were wonderful.
Pros
Working with teachers from English speaking countries around the world, emmersion in Egyption culture, freedom to teach, colleagial support, great students
Cons
No lunch provided, climbing five stories of stairs several times a day, PE department that only offered soccer tournaments, little disciplinary support from Egyptian A
